Skûtsje Intro!

Martijn Verkleij Reports News

A few weeks ago the sailing club went out with about 14 people on Het Zwarte Schaap, a Skûtsje from Heeg. Always a lot of fun! We sailed to Akkrum on Friday to pick up the guests.

On Saturday there was a lot of wind, a wind from the east. With this amount and direction of wind we decided to sail back to Heeg, blasting over the lakes and canals!

And we were not alone! Soon the Off-Duty came after us, with four of our members! With the spinaker hoisted they chased us and even overtook us near Heeg! After a long day of sailing, we reached "Konijneneiland" together just before the rain poured down, where we moored for the night.

On Sunday, the wind would turn to the south. We already knew that on Friday, which is why this enthusiastic journey beyond Heeg was possible! On Sunday we sailed back half wind back, where we used "Kanaaltuig" all day. That was not 'an unnecessary luxury', as the Dutch say, because although the "Kanaaltuig" does not have this as its main purpose, it was practically a substantial reef. This was necessary with the strong wind force (5 bft).

After a long journey back we arrived in Akkrum in the middle of the afternoon. The guests were dropped off again, after which Het Zwarte Schaap set course again for Heeg.

All in all we had two days of quite relaxed sailing despite the strong wind!
