The history of Drienerlose sailing association Euros

When the very first students of the technical university Twente came to Enschede in 1964, they alomst immediately founded all kinds of sporting associations. First there was the Drienerlose water sport association Euros, founded on 2 September 1964, in which canoeists, rowers and sailors were represented. Soon they found out that there interests lay to far apart and they split into three separate associations:

Drienerlose Sail association Euros

Drienerlose Canoe association Euros

Drienerlose Row association Euros

Mostly is was professor Draijer that provided the necessary impulses for gathering the materials the sailors needed. He was a professor at the mechanical engineering faculty, but moreover had a passion for sailing and was a capable ship architect. One of his designs was the "Draijer",a 5,70 meter long polyester sailing boat. During these day a shipyard had just begon building such a boat. However they could not get along so well and professor Draijer asked for help to a couple enthusiastic sailors. Eventually this let to D.Z. Euros owning two "Draijers", were the first generation was replaced by a second one (self build). These boats were Jonkie and Overtijd.
