Laarzen gemaakt van Gore-Tex hebben vaak zowel aan de binnen- als buitenzijde een stevig materiaal (vaak in de vorm van Cordura) wat als bescherming dient voor het daadwerkelijke membraan. De binnenzijde kan ook voorzien zijn van een extra voering. Een voordeel van volledig stoffen laarzen is dat zij erg flexibel zijn, en dus makkelijk in een tas te vervoeren.

De goedkoopste laarzen zijn in principe tuinlaarzen met een ander type zool. Waar tuinlaarzen bedoeld zijn om in drassige ondergrond voldoende grip te bieden werkt deze aanpak op een nat dek niet. Op een nat oppervlak zoals een dek is vooral contactoppervlak een bepalende factor in de hoeveelheid grip die een zool biedt. Noppenzolen zullen dan ook aanzienlijk minder grip bieden dan een zool ontwikkeld voor zeillaarzen/schoenen.

Rubberen laarzen worden over het algemeen uit één stuk gegoten, met een lasnaad op de achterzijde van de kuit. De zool wordt ook met een lasnaad vastgezet waarna het geheel wordt afgedicht met een rubber tape. Reddingsvesten voor controleren oppompen en niet opblazen i.v.m. vocht. Checken op goed vastzitten van de gascilinder en aanwezigheid van kruisbanden. Ook houdbaarheidsdatum patronen checken en kijken of er genoeg reservepatronen zijn. Lekke vesten direct markeren en weggooien!

Nieuwe vesten moeten voorzien zijn van een lampje en sprayhood, de op het moment voordeligste vesten die hieraan voldoen zijn de Marinepool 300N vesten
